First Reconciliation

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation or Penance  (commonly called Penance, Reconciliation, or Confession) is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church, in which the faithful obtain absolution for the sins committed against God and are reconciled with the community of the Church.  By this sacrament Christians believe they are freed from sins committed after Baptism.

Children generally make their First Reconciliation in second grade after attending a series of Sacramental Preparation classes and a retreat.

Please note that for SJV school children, immediate preparation for the sacraments will now be done together with the faith formation group, and not in the classrooms anymore. All families should be registerred through faith formation regardless of school status.

Preparation for the sacraments is a separate and distinct event that is in addition to the ongoing faith formation. Please check the Family Faith Formation website for more details.

Please contact Adriana Ramarez at 716-674-9133 or faithformation@sjvop.org for more information regarding First Reconciliation.
