Mrs.
Brinkworth
I am the
Learning Resource Center (LRC) teacher at St. John Vianney School. I
received my under grad from Buffalo State College in Elementary
Education with a concentration in Mathematics. My masters degree is
from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction. I have
my New York State Certification and am North Carolina certified to
teach the Academically and Intellectually Gifted. I have had the
unique opportunity to have spent a year studying under an NCTM
(National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) certified teacher. I
have earned several renewal credit hours studying reading
instruction, balanced literacy, conducting reading running records,
and writing development.
My training
enables me to test students in order to develop a plan for them that
will better meet their needs. I work with students who require
additional support in reading, writing, and math. Additionally, I
conduct several enrichment reading groups with students who have
excelled in reading in their regular classrooms. This year I have
the unique opportunity to also teach Writing to 4th grade
as part of a teaching team along with Mrs. Fabian and Mrs. Kubiak
two very talented educators.
My mission is to
provide my students with the support that they need to be successful
within their regular classrooms. I work with students in either
small group or on a one-to-one basis depending on individual need. I
strive to create a positive and productive learning environment for
all of my students to achieve success. I am proud to be working with
a variety of St. John Vianney’s students.
Although
I am originally from Hamburg, NY, my husband and I moved to
Burlington, NC in 1998 where I lived and taught 3rd grade
at Marvin B. Smith Elementary for 7 years. Before my husband Bob and
I moved to NC, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Math and advanced
8th grade, Course I, Regent's Math for a year at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help in Lake View, NY. Before that I subbed for 2 ˝ years
for both the Hamburg and Eden Central school systems. I've taught
every elementary grade and specialty class at least once thanks to
my subbing experiences. Upon our return to NY I worked at Mary Queen
of Angels in Cheektowaga for a year teaching Math and Science to
grades 6 – 8. Believe it or not it is possible to miss the cold and
the snow, but it was our families that drew us back home.

If you haven't
already noticed, the flamingo is my favorite creature. They are very
beautiful and unique, much like the children that I work with. My
favorite past time is spending time at home with my husband and my
cats Teacup, Peanut, and Cinnamon. I enjoy working with technology
and making jewelry. I love technology and all that it can do for us.
That is why I'm so proud of my web page. It is a wonderful resource
for parents and students to have.
